Challenge update and Denmark fun facts

How’s the challenge going?

Make you feel great

It’s all about making a conscious choice about what you eat. It actually seems to work for me! I’m not avoiding anything, just choosing to make some healthier choices and avoiding the slightly unhealthier ones. Restricting myself never, ever works. It even has the opposite effect for me. Don’t you agree?

I’m also proud and thankful for a link from Karen:

Blue Sky Days 365

Check it out! She writes really well and inspiring. And being good and staying on track is easier when you know you are not the only one making that little bit of an effort!

I’ve also signed to for Adriene’s yoga sessions:

Adriene

She’s incredibly inspiring! And even though I feel as if I’m in a storm due to hectic work deadlines and that work life balance thing, right now today I feel ok! Maybe I’m in the eye of the storm… By doing small things to make you feel better actually helps! I really recommend. Nothing major to focus on- just to be more aware about you and your health.

Autumn has arrived here! I actually love it. The change in seasons. It’s a privilege to be able to see the year change and nature along with that.

Did you know that:

* Copenhagen means “Merchants harbour”

* Denmark’s national flag is the oldest flag in the world to be used by an independent nation going back to 1219

* Strøget- the shopping street in Copenhagen is the oldest and longest pedestrian street in the world at 3.2km/ 2 miles

Lastly I want to thank everyone who read, likes and comments here! I find it very inspiring and it makes me also realise to do the same in other blogs! I recommend that you also do the same today; read, like and comment on someone’s blog that you really enjoy! I know personally how appreciated and inspiring that is!

Rain weather- there is no such thing as bad weather…

I remember when I grew up, we were out and about come rain, snow or sunshine! In Sweden there is an expression that says: “det finns inget dåligt väder, bara dåliga kläder”. When you say it, it rhymes. I have been living away for a while now though. A very vivid memory I have is when I joined a friend in Sweden to pick up her then 3 years old son from the nursery. It was winter and very cold. Definitely below 0C/32F. I looked out on the backside of the nursery as there were quite a few prams lined up outside. That is where they leave the children to have their afternoon nap in- in the cold, in the snow?! Even I was very surprised when I understood that! Of course they are properly dressed, covered and wrapped up in warm blankets. And the staff and parents are experts in how to decide what to dress their kids in. To translate the phrase- it literally means that “there is no bad weather only bad clothes”. And I do notice that here in Denmark as well. Children play outside even though it might be raining and cold. I actually think it’s quite healthy. And normally it rains a lot in the Nordics, so in order to get some sort of daylight exposure- I think this is a great attitude. But of course, you have to make sure you are properly dressed for it! So now, I am on the hunt for a good raincoat and some boots. I’ve recently discovered the Danish brand Ilse Jacobsen and become a fan of their clothing and boots:

Ilse Jacobsen

This company was founded in 1993 and it started out with only 10 items. So today they are celebrating 25 years. This is on my wish list right now- and I really think it’ll be needed quite soon as the weather is definitely changing here! What do you think are “must have” items where you live?

The 50 most livable cities in the world

Business Insider have ranked the 50 most livable cities in the world. I always find it interesting to read lists containing different things and comparing. It’s always important to remember that everything we read and write- is subjective. It doesn’t really matter if it states that it’s “objective”. Do you agree? Can a person truly be objective? Internet is such an amazing world! But the results when searching for facts always depend on many different factors; search engines, how they’re built, the search words you enter and so on. I think it’s important to remember that. So of course when you try and find different lists that rank nice cities to live in, they always look different. I do quite like this list though:

50 most livable cities in the world

The metrics in this list included crime rates, healthcare quality, infrastructure and levels of corruption. Top of the list is… wait!

The list starts with Los Angeles. A very cool city to visit! Quite beautiful with nice scenery and good shopping. The traffic can be quite horrendous though. 11 out of the 50 cities are in the US actually. San Francisco is another one that I like. 2 cities included are from the U.K. I’m surprised that London is low on the list. 4 cities are in Canada. I really like Canada and find the cities that I have visited very beautiful! 23 cities are in Europe (it is a big continent) and 12 in Asia (incl AZ/NZ). The city in this survey as number 1 is… ta da:

Vienna in Austria.

You can always debate why certain cities are included and not in these type of lists. If nothing else I love the pictures here and it makes me want to really visit some of them sometime soon!

Yoga with Adriene a very short post!

I’d like to promote again Yoga with Adriene. She’s now offering this two weeks course:

Yoga with Adriene

She’s someone I greatly admirer. She’s truly spreading what she believes in for the greater good. It’s a global course- that you can do in your home when convenient for you! It’s free as well, which in this day and age I find incredible. I just wanted to mention her again as she’s pretty fantastic. Sign up and give it a try. You will not regret it! I truly recommend.

She’s amazing!!!

Next challenge for this week! All to make you feel great…

This weeks challenge will be to make a conscious choice. A conscious choice of what you actually put in your body. Ok now I might lose half of the people who read my posts- another diet? But oh no. That does not work for me! Trust me, I admire people who stick to diets, eat in particular ways, are vegetarians, vegans, eat paleo and so on. I just know it’s not for me. I love food! And for me it’s extremely important to have a healthy attitude to food. Especially as I have a 9 year old daughter. In no way do I want to create a strange relationship to food. Eating should be enjoyable and something you look forward to. My motto instead is to eat a little bit of everything- in moderation and ideally incorporate daily exercise. I know very well that’s easier said than done! But for this week I will make a conscious choice of thinking about what I eat and drink. I know that it makes a difference- if nothing else in the way I feel. Being a bit healthier will do me good. But don’t worry I will never stop enjoying a piece of chocolate or a slice of pizza. I just know… that recently I have been a bit too indulgent which is quite easy in Copenhagen where they do amazing pastries and where the access to the type of sweets I grew up with is too near for my good right now. Will you join me? This will be a challenging challenge for me, but one of which I will be extremely proud of if I succeed in thinking about healthier choices for a while! And if I can do this- so can you! Come on and join me, you know it makes sense!!!
