The miracle of mindfulness

I realise that “mindfulness” is a thing and in vogue right now and has been for some time. At times, it might take me a while before I’m convinced something might work. I suppose one of these are… mindfulness. Many of us live busy lives, work, travel, are constantly connected and available. I’ve just finished “The miracles of mindfulness” by Thich Nhat Hanh. There are some excellent quotes in here:

“Mindfulness is the miracle by which we master and restore ourselves”.

“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts”.

I do think that mindfulness is something which is here to stay, or to continue to stay. This as it has been here for ages, just relatively recently given focus to.

This book however, I do recommend.

Europe as a destination

Europe is one of 7 continents in the world. According to the UN, it consists of 44 countries. I’m sure these facts can be debated, but if it’s one thing I’ve learned is that sometimes you just have to draw a line when it comes to facts- as generally most things can be debated- of course!

What’s interesting though is that some categorise European languages into living and dead languages. Some of these dead languages are the Classical Greek and Latin ones.

When I travel to a country, I always find that it helps if you can understand a little bit of the language that is spoken. And ideally if you can speak it, that’s even better! If not I think it’s great if you at the very least can say the very basic such as hello and thank you.

Right now on my list my list, I need to be able to say: yasu, sas exfaristo and adio.

A good App I just stumbled upon is: nemo Greek. I will let you know if I can recommend it!

Ray of sunshine

What are good qualities in a person? Recently I have made an effort in being positive. To help me achieve this, I’m doing more yoga, trying to meditate and trying to find and see the good in people. I am saying “trying” to meditate because I do believe that it is a skill that you have to practice consistently in order for it to give true results.

I really do believe that being positive is contagious. But for some people it is not a trait that is their “default trait”. It is something that you have to train and actively work on. Life is more fun though if you are a genuinely happy and a nice person. Don’t you think?

That is one thing I’d like to achieve with my writing: to inspire, to make you feel good and that you leave this blog feeling motivated and inspired. I also want this to be a ray of sunshine in the blogosphere!

Vista Palazzo Lago di Como

This is a recent opened 5-star hotel in Como we were recommended and accompanied to for an aperitivo by a close friend, who generally has excellent taste in most things in life. And this recommendation did not disappoint. It has a boutique feel to it and an amazing terrace with, most likely, one of the best views over Lago di Como. Go there for nice drinks- the bar manager just moved back from London and makes great cocktails (non- and alcoholic ones)!!!
